Dr. Jeffrey
Attends Symposium on Laparoscopic Hernia Repair - August
2005
Dr. Jay R. Jeffrey, a surgeon at White River Medical Center, completed an advanced laparoscopy course in New Orleans recently. The symposium leaders of "Advanced Ventral/Incisional Hernia Repair" included medical school professors and experienced surgeons who, like Dr. Jeffrey, perform hernia repairs with the less-invasive techniques of advanced laparoscopy. It was sponsored by Ethicon Products.
Dr. Jeffrey said he wants to learn new techniques and modify his existing techniques to
improve patient outcomes, based on a consensus of surgeons' experience. "Specifically, techniques learned may help to decrease recurrence of hernia, the discomfort and pain associated with laparoscopic hernia repair, and may provide insight into treating these outcomes when they do occur," Dr. Jeffrey added.
The laparoscopic approach to hernia repairs has resulted in reduced recurrence and infection rates, Dr. Jeffrey said. Most patients return to their normal activities in about four to six weeks after a laparoscopic ventral hernia repair.
Dr. Jeffrey is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He practices at Batesville Surgery & CT Imaging, 501 Virginia Drive, Batesville, telephone 698-1846 or toll free 800-371-8681. Dr. Jeffrey's Web address is www.batesvillesurgery.com. He also sees patients regularly at the WRMC Specialty Clinic at Hardy, 1998 Hwy. 62/412, Suite M, telephone (870) 856-5677.
